‘Kai’ means ‘sea’ in Japanese — and you can see that before anyone has a chance to explain it. The blue spreads unevenly across the white, gathering more deeply in some places and almost disappearing in others, just like the water in a shallow bay on a sunny day.
The glaze is applied by hand, so no two cups come out of the kiln exactly the same. The one you’ll receive is one of a kind — and that’s not just a marketing phrase, but a consequence of how they’re made.
